Greek Demonstration siteAspra Spitia
Aspra Spitia is a unique settlement in Greece, originally built by Pechiney in 1965 to house employees of the industrial complex in Aghios Nikolaos. Now managed by Metlen, this ‘company town’ has evolved into Greece’s first energy-self-sufficient Smart City. Mytilineos has integrated various smart city tools, including energy management, smart water treatment, waste management, and more.
Four of the premises in the Greek pilot site are already equipped with IoT devices, smart plugs, and multisensors from previous EU projects, making them ideal for early testing of DIGITISE services in a secure Living Lab environment.
Demo site Description
- 15 houses equipped with photovoltaic (PV) panels, producing a total of 45 kW, and domestic batteries with a capacity of 75 kWh.
- IoT equipment installed in 4 of these homes and 36 other buildings, including smart meters for total consumption, smart plugs, smart meters for AC units and domestic hot water (DHW) boilers, controlling devices for AC units and ICT units for the remote control of DHW boilers, multisensors, and domestic batteries.
- Two double AC chargers have been installed in publicly accessible locations to support electric vehicles (EVs) in the area.
- Sensors and IoT devices installed on the building premises collect data on temperature, humidity, luminance, motion, and electricity consumption.
